Combined Heat & Power for Industrial Sites
Collaborative Project
ESN has been working to explore options to address rising energy costs for large industrial customers, which can impact retention and attraction of new economic development opportunities. ESN’s goal is to develop two new CHP projects using a hybrid model, where utility and industrial customers co-invest in CHP systems. We will consider a “greenfield” free-trade zone development site for one project and are exploring a possible state revolving loan fund to support industrial customer capital investment requirements.

Objectives
Develop 2 CHP projects using a hybrid model where utilities and industrial customers co-invest in CHP systems with state financing support.
Benefits
Improve industrial use of traditional power sources by using heat output as an alternative, supplemental source of power.
Impact
Create a clear, replicable model for companies interested in capitalizing on the benefits of installing a CHP site.
