Battery Innovation Center Announces Two Educational Series on Energy Storage Technologies, Electrical Grid

News Release

Introductory and advanced courses available to industry beginning in April 2016

(CRANE, Ind., March 1, 2016) The Battery Innovation Center (BIC) has announced two new series of educational programming centered around energy storage technologies available to its members and industry professionals next month.

The BIC has created two different programs to provide both foundational knowledge and a more in-depth discussion of energy storage, the grid, and related technologies. The first course, the Executive Workshop, is a one-day course for executives or leaders in related industries with limited prior exposure to battery technologies, terms, and concepts.

The second offering is a Battery Short Course, which is geared toward current employees of BIC member companies and other industry, academic, and government participants that are interested in rounding out or rapidly acquiring a broad-based understanding of the industry. The short course will cover three- to four days and provides detailed discussion on a broad range subject matter, including chemistry and materials selection, battery management systems, system design and controls, module/pack design, field service, second use, and lab analysis.

“As a non-profit service provider to the industry, a core aspect of BIC’s mission is to advance the state of technology in the industry,” BIC President David Roberts said. “One of the key ways to promote advancement is to have an open forum where industry participants can quickly understand where we are, what technologies are being developed today, and what our collective goals are going forward.”

Dr. Scott Forbey, a Purdue University faculty member permanently stationed at the BIC, plays a central role in designing the curriculum. “As BIC has served member companies over the past several years, one thing we routinely focus on is ensuring those new partners understand the current state of the art,” Forbey said. “We have consistently received positive feedback to establish a series like this, and we look forward to initiating the courses throughout the year.”

The programs range in price beginning at $500 per seat, and discounts are available for BIC member organizations. Registration is now open for the first Executive Workshop scheduled for April 28, 2016, and the first Battery Short Course is slated for July 2016.
